The scope of the varicose veins ranges from spider vein which cause no symptoms to large ropy veins that result in pain, swelling, itching etc. The most of the insurance companies pay for the symptomatic veins. The Veins carry blood from limbs to heart meaning that the blood has to work its way up against the gravity. The valves in the veins help direct the blood in upwards direction. These valves are weak in certain individuals, thereby, allowing the back flow of the column of blood downwards under the effect of gravity. This back pressure leads to results in dilatation of veins and subsequently the symptoms of discomfort, swelling etc. A large percentage of men and women deal with visible and unsightly veins on their legs and face. Superficial veins on the legs are often called spider veins. Small veins/vessels on the face are called telangiectasia. Telangiectasias are abnormally dilated vessels very close to the surface of the skin. Both types of vessels respond very well to modern treatments. The most common treatments for spider veins on legs include laser therapy and sclerotherapy. For facial veins, laser therapy is the gold standard of treatment.

Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) is a laser procedure for treating varicose veins without incision or surgery under local anesthetic. As you lie comfortable on your back, procedure is performed under local anesthetic. Local anesthetic is also injected around the entire length of vein to reduce the discomfort. The laser energy heats the vein walls, shrinking them and closing the faulty vein so that the blood cannot flow through it. This eliminates the leaking back blood at the source. There is no incision or hospital stay is required. EVLT has excellent long term results. Pressure stocking are worn for one week post procedure.

Laser For Spider Veins

Laser therapy is most effective for very small spider veins. During laser treatment, a laser is applied to the skin over spider veins. Laser energy heats spider veins causing them to coagulate and shrink. Two to four treatments may be required for optimum results at six to eight week interval to get desired results.

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a liquid agent through a tiny needle directly into your small feeder veins and spider veins, damaging their inner lining that result in collapse of the treated segments. Expect that two to four sclerotherapy sessions at six to eight weeks intervals may be necessary to achieve your desired results. Pressure stocking are worn for one week post procedure.

This procedure is meant for larger, wiggly, and ropy veins that are prominently visible on the legs. These varicose veins are ideally treated by making tiny nick and then taking out the segment of the vein with crochet hook under local anesthetic. This procedure is simple and almost pain free.
