The key to effective acne control is three fold. Control excess oil, and destruciont the P. acne bacteria before it has a chance to thrive and inflame your skin. Each of these is accomplished, simply and effectively with the Blue Light and Acne specific Lasers. The Blue Light and Laser makes the acne manageable. Lasers can be used either in combination with medicine at the outset of acne treatment if acne is bad enough or added at a later stage if the acne is not adequately control with medication.
Very few people need to go on to Accutane with above combination. Accutane is very effective medicine for nodular/cystic acne but has serious side effects.
Acne is an inflammatory skin condition characterized by skin eruptions of acne prone pilosebaceous unit ( sebaceous gland). There are three elements to the causation of acne; oils produced by the sebaceous glands, acne bacteria, and abnormal pore lining, which is compounded by application of facial creams/ make-up that can clog these pore. This combination set the stage for acne eruptions. Acne is most common in teenagers, yet many adults struggle with acne as well. The condition usually begins at puberty and may continue for many years. Three out of four teenagers suffer from acne to some extent, caused by hormonal changes that stimulate the sebaceous (oil producing) skin glands. Other hormonal changes can affect acne including menstrual periods or stress.
Acne is caused when sebaceous glands pores become clogged, oil and skin cells accumulate resulting in a plug that causes the pilosebaceous unit to bulge appearing as whiteheads. Tiny amount of plug may extrude which turns black on exposure to air causing blackheads. If the plug causes the wall of the follicle to rupture, the contents of plug i.e., the oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria enter the surrounding skin and form small infected areas called papules/ pustules (also known as pimples). If these infected areas are deep in the skin, they may enlarge to form firm, painful nodules and cysts.
How do Blue Light/ Laser Therapy work?
Blue Light Acne Therapy is simple and painless. While you relax on your back, Dr. Jafri treats your face with a bright blue; cool to the touch hand piece. Goggles are worn to protect your eyes from the bright light. Acne Bacteria, P. Acne, absorbs this special wavelength of blue light to kill the P. acnes bacteria on your skin/acne producing glands.
The other component for acne control, oil is suppressed by highly selective Thermascan Laser Technology that scans and laser the acne bearing areas in a non-sequential way targeting the oil producing glands. This laser treatment results in reduction in oil production and very likely gland size as well. The blue and laser therapy is given sequentially by Dr. Jafri and is highly effective in acne control. You will like your acne free face.
